Working of NCS-Esteem

By pressing the call button on the calling unit an indicator gets lighted up confirming that your call is passed on, which in turn reaches the Nurse Station Display unit and dynamically flashes the room number of the patient on it simultaneously. The Voice module in it announces “Attention Patient Calling” which forces the nurse to give immediate attention.
After noticing the call, the nurse can silence the voice module by pressing the MUTE button on Display Unit which makes the flashing window steady but it will continue glowing unless it is cleared by the nurse from the patient’s room using the calling unit. If another patient raises a call, again the same procedure takes place independent of the preceding call. NS LCD Display will show long pending call message if a call is unattended for a long time.
Usage of LCD display allows for flipping the pages to show more pending calls if any. This saves wall space and reduces the cost per bed. Thus NCS ensures a positive and immediate response from the nurse for the patient needs.

Objective of NCS Esteem:

  • To replace existing Buzzer System
  • Make it convenient for connecting more number of patients(up to 48) to a Nurse station.
  • Better display aesthetics at the nurse station.
  • Cut down cabling cost.

Features:

  • Expandable up to 48 patients with the addition of only low cost modules.
  • Modules allow for an incremental steps of 8 patients.
  • Different modules in the system can be strategically located to reduce the cabling drastically, since the inter module distances can be several 100 meters.
  • Additional feature of Long Pending Call alert is an incidental benefit.
  • This also reduces the requirement of wall space.
  • When more than 16 beds are associated with a Nurse station (between 16 and 48), then it is highly recommended to go for Esteem model. It is equivalent to 4 Esteem Model NCS.
  • SMS facility for call escalation is available.

Nurse Station Display (Sleek)

Nurse Station Display (NS) is designed around a RISC based microcontroller to read three keys, to update information on 128 x 64 LCD display and to show a maximum of 8 bed/ Calling unit information assigned to various rooms or patients. An integrated voice module also is controlled based on the information received from the PIH8

Specifications:
Power Button : Pressing this for long time(approximately 3 sec) turns the device ON or OFF.

MUTE Button : It is for acknowledging a call from patient. It will make the flashing window steady and also silences the voice module until a call is cleared.

Test Button : On pressing the button it will flash all the windows and will announce ”Attention, Patient calling” to make sure that the device is working fine.

Bed Calling Unit

The unit is designed with soft touch key pad consisting of one key for call initiation and another for clearing call which is required to be done by the nurse attending to the patient.

Additional push button switch is integrated to this unit by means of a coil cord to enable a patient to initiate a call from the bed itself.

Specifications:
Dimension : 118mm (L) X 90mm (W) X 53mm (H)
Weight : 160 g
