Working of NCS-Elite+

Ordinarily a patient can initiate a call either by pressing a feather touch key on the calling unit or by pressing bed side switch. This action will make all three indicators viz.: the indicator on the calling unit, the door indicator (Red) and the window allocated for this calling unit on the Nurse Station LCD Monitor at the Nurse Station flash. Incidentally the voice “Attention Bed Call” keeps repeating itself.
On pressing “Mute” button on the Nurse Call Processor at the Nurse Station or on pressing “Care” button on the Room Unit at the patient room, the voice gets muted and all the three indicators that where flashing earlier will become steady to indicate recognition of the call. Pressing “Care” button either directly or subsequent to the pressing of the “Mute” button at the Nurse Station will make nurse station LCD monitor display at the Nurse Station show the presence of the nurse at the room (Room Symbol with NURSING Status) and Door Indicator turn Green to show the patient is being taken care.
Apart from this ordinary call there are two other important calls viz: toilet call, emergency call that can be initiated from a patient’s room. Once toilet call is initiated through the toilet calling unit, the same sequence of events is followed as that of an ordinary call with an exception that the nurse station LCD monitor display at the Nurse Station will show “Room Symbol with TLTCL / INST/ALRM Status” and the separate voice “Emergency Toilet Call / Attention Equipment Alarm” is triggered. It also has to be noted that the Door Indicator will be flashed faster with a different color.

Basic Features:

  • System on chip based design to make system versatile.
  • Low working voltage to ensure patient’s safety.
  • Any patient call is remembered until the patient is attended to.
  • Aesthetically designed multicolor Door and Bed Indicators help viewing variety of call status.

Enhanced Features:

  • Larger Multi color LCD screen.
  • Voice announcement for narrating type of call.
  • Color coded room number display with call description.
  • Display of room numbers even for forwarded calls and Code blue alerts from other Nurse stations.
  • Menu driven user interface to configure the system and customize it.
  • Pendrive interface for uploading room names.
  • Provides for diagnostics mode for easy installation of the system.
  • Provision for displaying calls on multiple Large size LED TV’s.
  • Allows for networking of Nurse Stations on LAN.
  • Provision to Call status view of all the Nurse stations from any work station on network.
  • Comprehensive Call forwardingand Call escalation features.
  • Display of calls in the order of originating time.

Also essential are the modules which are specific to a particular kind of patient rooms and are listed under following headings:

Modules for Private rooms:

In private rooms all the modules deployed are dedicated exclusively for only one patient. Hence, modules other than Bed Calling Unit need not be comprehensive. Hence our modules Composite Call Room Unit (CCRU), Door Indicator (DI), Toilet Calling Unit (TCU), Equipment Alarm Interface (EAI) are used.

Modules for Deluxe rooms:

Deluxe rooms generally are to be treated like a private room except an additional requirement to get help from a place other than Nurse Station like pantry. Hence the modules could either be same as that of Private rooms or Dual Call Room Unit (DCRU), Toilet Calling Unit (TCU), Door Indicator (DI), Equipment Alarm Interface (EAI).

Modules for Semi-private rooms / General wards:

Generally Semi-private rooms/ General wards vary from 2 beds to 4 beds where toilet is shared. Hence toilet is to be treated as an independent entity. The modules used for such rooms include MultiBed Calling Unit-0 (MBCU-0), MultiBed Calling Unit-R (MBCU-R), Shared Toilet Calling Unit (STCU), Composite DI and optional Bed Indicator.

Various modules associated are explained as follows:

Composite Call Room Unit (CCRU)

CCRU is designed around a RISC based microcontroller to read the keys on it, to interface with all room modules viz: TCU, DI, Optional EAI etc.., and to report their status to the Nurse Station Controller.

Multi Bed Calling Unit (MBCU-0/R)

MBCU-0 is designed around a RISC based microcontroller to be used for shared rooms and general wards. An MBCU-0 can get grouped with up to 8 or 16 MBCU-R units to cater to as many beds depending on the proximity of beds. Every MBCU-0/R provides for connecting BI, EAI. MBCU-0 can also get connected to an additional Composite DI.
